How is geocell installed? It is important to know the installation process, especially if you want to use this material as soon as possible.

Geocell is a 3-dimensional panel that is light and flexible. This material can be developed like a harmonica musical instrument. This material is commonly made from High Density Polyethylene or HDPE strips.

They are bonded using an ultrasonic method to obtain a strong configuration. When viewed from the surface, geocells are divided into 2 groups, namely smooth surfaces or textured surfaces.

More about Geocell

The materials used in this soil reinforcement technique were first used by United States Army Corps engineers in 1975 (Bathurst & Knight, 1998) (Webster, 1979). He used it to carry out tests on the construction of road approaches to bridges in soft soil conditions.

This material is a relatively thick geosynthetic item, thus forming a three-dimensional network structure from polymer strip sheets. These strips are connected to form interconnected cells filled with soil and sometimes also concrete.

In its development, especially in the 1980s, its use became increasingly widespread. It was commonly used in soil strengthening, erosion protection, and slope stabilization applications.

In the following decades, this material continued to experience innovation and development. These innovations can be seen in both; terms of design and material.

In the 21st century, geocells have become an integral component in various construction projects, such as road construction, airport runways, retaining walls, and various other projects that require soil reinforcement.

How is Geocell installed?

The history of this material reflects the evolution of construction technology and its increasingly important role in the development of global infrastructure. Now you can buy it easily, and here are how to install them.

How is geocell installed? Before installing this item, you should prepare the field first. Like preparing a location that meets the design criteria, then you can carry out the installation.

1.     Dig the Specified Depth

First, dig a trench anchor at the specified depth. Then each panel must be anchored at the top of the slope. However, it must be not done on shallow slopes.

This is because slopes are the locations where anchor trenches are not important. After all, using pins is enough to strengthen the anchors. Then, expand the panel to its fully open dimension until it is parallel to the flow direction.

2.     Secure with Pins

Anchor the panel above the slope and secure the bottom with pins. Adjust the diameter for consistency on the lower grades to ensure that this material fits your land perfectly.

You can fill the anchor trench at the top with any type of filling material as long as it is suitable. If necessary, fill it back with concrete to reduce the length of the trench that was planted earlier.

Composing Materials of Geocells

Geocell is made from high-quality polymer material which is strong and durable. The main material is generally used to make materials involving polymers such as polyethylene (HDPE or High-Density Polyethylene) or polypropylene.

This polymer was chosen because it is known for its high tensile strength, resistance to harsh environmental conditions, and ability to withstand chemical corrosion.
