Knowing the geogrid manufacturers process can be essential information so that you will understand more about this product. Since it has several types, it is better to learn each of them.

Geogrid is a geosynthetic product made from polymer materials Polyester (PET), Polypropylene, or High Density Polyethylene. These product functions are for pile, slope, and road pavement structure reinforcement.

It comes together with coarse grain material. The geogrid manufacturers process includes the process of unifying woven knitted yarn with high-tensile strength (PET type).

Types of Geogrid Manufacturers Process

The connecting ‘strip’ shaped materials through heating (heat-welded from strips of material), and from sheet material (PP / HDPE) will be used too. Those are going through the process of perforation (extruding and punching), which becomes sheets to form a grid / square net.

In the market, there are some types of geogrid which makes the making process is also different. Here are some types of those products and the way to create them.

1.     Biaxial PP

It is a product which is formed integrally. Biaxial PP is made of a high-quality Polypropylene (PP) material produced through the process of extruding, punching, heating, longitudinal stretching and transverse stretching.

Physically, this type of Geogrid is in the form of a sheet with holes like a net. The hole’s function is to fill and bind the pile material used (gravel, sirtu, soil, sand, etc.).

The way this type works is interlocking (locking aggregate) which means locking the aggregate on top of the Geogrid. That is why; the aggregate layer is more rigid, and easy to compaction.

In general, this type of geogrid has four measures that are distinguished by their strength. Usually, a manufacturer will explain everything before you buy it.

2.     Uniaxial PP

This geogrid manufacturers process is a bit different. The Uniaxial is used in soil reinforcement applications, soil retaining walls, steep slopes, slope stabilization, and piles on soft soils.

Most Uniaxial Geogrids are used for slope reinforcement. These products rely on high tensile strength and low creep elongation.

For avalanche cases, these items are placed on the soil layer, backfilled, and compacted layer by layer. It is done to maintain soil stability by distributing it into tensile strength.

3.     Geogrid Polyester

Polyester Geogrid (PET) is square in shape which is similar to Biaxial PP, but more flexible. It is made of high-strength polyester fiber woven, coated with UV protective polymer coatings, and other chemicals.

The strength of polyester geogrids can be very high ranging from 20 kN/m to 200 kN/m. Furthermore, the price is also affordable And some sizes are available.

The General Functions of Geogrid

After learning more about the geogrid manufacturers process above, you have to know about their common functions too. First of all is for a strengthening purpose.

It creates a good strengthening geosynthetic (good carrying capacity) in the ground and/or synthetic systems. Both are in compression, but less in tension to provide greater strength and also structural stability.

The second function is for Stabilization. These products rely on interlocking as a backfill material. With this stability, there will be a possibility of increasing resistance above the ground base.

Last but not least, this item is also good for erosion control. That is why; the geogrid manufacturers process must be done professionally.
