geomat retaining wall is an amazing breakthrough for our construction industry. Many people believe that it becomes a better, more durable, and nature-friendly option to prevent erosion.

People also call it an erosion-control blanket material. It is now an effective solution as a substitute for Cocomesh. As we know, cocomesh is a net made of coconut husk.

That material is often used for planting new vegetation on slopes, road cliffs, and reclamation of former mining land. This can be done by hydroseeding or certain methods.

What is A Geomat Retaining Wall

However, now the availability of raw materials such as coconut husk to produce cocomesh in Indonesia and from abroad is decreasing. That is why; the factory has begun to innovate in producing Geomat material.

They make it as a solution to replace cocomesh material. Geomat is a surface erosion control blanket material (Erosion Control Mat) that is made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE).

The shape of this product is a physical three-dimensional mesh arranged irregularly. From the shape of the material, it is specifically designed to be able to hold the stem to the roots of plants or new vegetation.

This is especially true at the beginning of slope protection. That is why; the geomat retaining wall must be installed properly.

More About Geomat

After understanding the definition, it is essential to get more information about this item. Here is what you should know about Geomat for construction.

1.     The Type

The type of this thing is distinguished based on its thickness (number of layers). It is also generally categorized based on the code or type of geomat including EM2, EM3, EM4, and EM5.

To find out the various types of geomatics, you can visit the manufacturer’s website. They will share more details about the geomat retaining wall.

2.     The Functions

As an alternative to replace Cocomesh, this product comes with some great functions. As a substitute for cocomesh, it is used for erosion control mat material which functions to protect slopes against surface erosion in the vegetation growth phase.

It will be able to hold soil and humus to plant roots. That is why; the pq/lants become more firmly embedded in new slopes or cliffs.

Geomats are a useful eco-friendly solution to prevent soil erosion and ensure rapid revegetation. It creates a soil surface that is more resistant to the effects of water erosion so that erosion can be reduced by more than 50%.

The Installation of Geomat

For the installation, it is better to carry out the excavation of armature trenches. The point is to securely bind the geomat retaining wall to the ground surface.

A good armature trench size is at least 300 mm wide with a depth of 300 mm. For application on slopes, armatures are made by digging trenches outside the top of slopes at least 600 mm deep.

This is with a note that the mode of application, soil type, slope of the channel, and several other factors will affect the variation in the details of the armature trench.

This product will be installed into the trench, then fastened at the bottom of the trench using ‘U’ shaped pins or staples. To make this geomat retaining wall not damaged, the trench will then be refilled before being compacted in such a way.
