The Standard Geobag Installation

Due to their number of benefits, GSCs are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to conventional hard structures. Geobags are PVC-based bags filled with sand.

These things can be lifted using a crane and filled with sand with the help of an automatic mechanical shovel. The geobag installation process generally consists of the following steps:

1.     Prepare the Location

The location must be prepared and evaluated in accordance with the planner’s requirements. Unsuitable soil must be cleared of slopes & sharp objects.

Things like roots, large stones, or construction materials that can puncture the geotextile, must be removed from the area. If there are holes in that area, they must be filled/covered to avoid stretching of the geotextile which might cause tearing when the GeoBag is placed.

2.     Fill the Geobag

Then this product must be filled with sand material, soil, etc. The thing to ensure is also the quality of closing steam which must be done properly.

The quality of the product will be directly determined by the geotextile and sewing thread used. Apart from that, you also need to pay close attention to the sewing equipment so that the stitching strength is high so that no leaks will occur.

3.     Place the Geobag

The next step of geobag installation is how you place these items. Make sure that it is placed in a safe and steady area. You should avoid areas that could later cause damage or leaks.

The bag will be placed, positioned, and secured in the right position without causing any damage to these products. It can ensure that they will give the land a maximum benefit.

4.     Finishing Step

After completing the geobag installation, the area will be backfilled & compacted according to the required specifications. This finishing step must be done perfectly as well.

The Frequently Asked Questions

Besides the installation steps above, some questions are always asked by people. Here are some of those frequently asked questions about geobag.

What’s the difference with Geotube? Conceptually, these products are actually the same, it’s just that there are differences in size, volume of contents, and the level of abrasion that will be addressed.

If the geobag has a relatively smaller size and volume, the geotube has a bigger size and can be filled with a very large volume. Apart from that, geobags are intended for less severe abrasion.

How about the stitching? Geotextiles must be formed using “J” SSn-2 stitching where proper sewing equipment must be used.

It is either a handheld sewing machine or a double-needle sewing machine. Good stitching will have a good impact on the geobag installation process.
